How Täsch works

Only electric vehicles are allowed in Zermatt. Drivers leave the car in Täsch, where the Matterhorn Terminal stands right at the station. From there a shuttle train of the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn takes you to the village centre in 12 minutes.

The terminal has 2,100 covered parking spaces and is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Some third-party sites quote 3,100 spaces. The operator figure of 2,100 is the one to trust.

Staying in Täsch instead

Some visitors sleep in Täsch and ride up every day.

Täsch has about nine accommodation businesses with roughly 572 beds, according to a tourist board leaflet from November 2023. The Matterhorn Terminal stands at the station and the shuttle takes 12 minutes to Zermatt. Rooms are often cheaper than in the village, but we have no verified prices. Randa, one stop further down the valley, is another option: 20 to 23 minutes from Zermatt by train, and the starting point for the long suspension bridge. Our guide to where to stay compares the bases.

Late arrival

Shuttle trains run hourly until 00:30 or 01:00 in the evening, and through the night at weekends. The terminal is open 24 hours.

The first shuttle leaves at 05:55. That suits a first lift to the Gornergrat or the Glacier Paradise.

Day trip by car

The Matterhorn-Inn car park charges CHF 10 per 24 hours, which suits a single day, but it has only 35 spaces.
